Profiles in Humanitarian Courage
Patricia Pearson
Pearson Peace Medal
Every year, since 1979, the United Nations Association in Canada honours a Canadian for his or her outstanding contributions to peace in Canada and around the world. This annual medal, awarded in a special ceremony, is supported by a gift from the Pearson family.
Profiles in Humanitarian Courage: Laureates of the Pearson Peace Medal
In 2017, author Patricia Pearson was commissioned to write the engaging stories of the first thirty laureates, showcasing the extraordinary peace-building work of these Canadian heroes, including such luminaries as Ursula Franklin, Romeo Dallaire, Louise Arbour, and Stephen Lewis. Two of the past recipients are Hamiltonians: Hanna Newcombe and Lois Wilson.
The United Nations Association in Canada is proud to share these stories to acknowledge the great humanitarians who have made Canada and the world better.
